Make no mistake about it, nothing really beats coming home after a long day at the office and kicking back with a delicious ice cold IPA or a glass of your finest wine – especially if you are feeling stressed out and just want to kind of unwind. But are you an alcoholic.
Alcohol is the ultimate social lubricant, and it works to relax you when you’re feeling tense but can also help you become the life of the party (so long as you are drinking in moderation).
Unfortunately, according to new research published by multiple British universities, a little bit of alcohol every single day may not be quite as beneficial to your health as many believed it to be in the past.
In fact, it may be killing you!
Can a single beer or one glass of wine every day be just as (if not more) dangerous than binge drinking?
A lot of people are going to have a very challenging time wrapping their heads around the fact that consuming just a little bit of alcohol every single day can be as dangerous – if not more dangerous – then going on a real old-fashioned bender and getting blackout drunk, but that’s what the new research postulates.
You see, a lot of medical experts and psychologists are really starting to closely examine the relationship between negative habits and their impact on our overall health. And while we don’t see anything really wrong with consuming a beer or two every single night or a glass of wine (or two) every evening, the truth of the matter is that all of that alcohol adds up to a staggering amount at the end of the year.
And it’s almost as if we were alcoholics.
43,000 people took part in the study, with the majority consuming between 22 and 61 drinks every week
It’s a lot easier to reach for that third or fourth beer or glass of wine when you have gotten so used to drinking one or two every night – and that’s when things start to spiral out of control.
According to medical experts all over the United Kingdom and in the United States there are a lot of “high functioning borderline alcoholics” that aren’t stumbling around, aren’t slurring their speech, and wouldn’t even be recognized as alcoholics – but they are pounding back a tremendous amount of alcohol on a routine basis without even realizing it.
All of these drinks are going to add up and your body is going to begin going through the same motions it does if you were a raging alcoholic over a shorter amount of time. It may be time to cut back significantly.
